چکیده
Marine ecosystems are unique and rich reservoirs of biodiversity with high potential toward improving the quality human life. The extreme physical–chemical conditions oceans have favored marine organisms to produce a great variety new molecules as mechanism ensure their survival, such compounds possess biopharmaceutical interest. In particular, microbiota represent promising inexhaustible source for development drugs. This work presents taxonomic study samples obtained from underwater volcano Tagoro, which has allowed us develop collection 182 bacterial strains. On October 10th, 2011, at La Restinga–El Mar de Las Calmas Reserve, an eruption gave rise novel shallow submarine 1.8 km south island El Hierro, Canary Islands, Spain. During first 6 months, perturbations, comprising thermal changes, water acidification, deoxygenation, metal enrichment, resulted in significant alterations ecosystem. After March 2012, Tagoro entered active hydrothermal phase that involved release heat, gases, metals, micronutrients continues till our present. 2016, research team had opportunity participate one monitoring oceanographic cruises carried out area order isolate microorganisms associated both rock deep-sea invertebrates over volcano. this study, Proteobacteria revealed most abundant Phylum 70.2% among all isolated strains, followed by Firmicutes 19%, Actinobacteria 9.5%, Bacteroidetes 1.2%. Furthermore, we present results antiproliferative assays extracts small-scale cultures selected An analysis effects culture activity showed strains grown Broth (MB) presented lower GI 50 values than those cultured modified medium (MM1). effect is improved when incubated under agitation conditions. genera Halobacillus , Kangiella Photobacterium Halomonas revealed. Bioprospecting Marine Plankton
The ocean dominates the surface of our planet and plays a major role in regulating the biosphere. For example, the microscopic photosynthetic organisms living within provide 50% of the oxygen we breathe, and much of our food and mineral resources are extracted from the ocean. In a time of ecological crisis and major changes in our society, it is essential to turn our attention towards the sea t...
متن کاملBreathing modes of Kolumbo submarine volcano (Santorini, Greece)
Submarine volcanoes, such as Kolumbo (Santorini, Greece) are natural laboratories for fostering multidisciplinary studies. Their investigation requires the most innovative marine technology together with advanced data analysis. Conductivity and temperature of seawater were recorded directly above Kolumbo's hydrothermal vent system. The respective time series have been analyzed in terms of non-e...
متن کاملHydroacoustic investigationof submarine landslides at West Mata volcano, Lau Basin
Submarine landslides are an important process in volcano growth yet are rarely observed and poorly understood. We show that landslides occur frequently in association with the eruption of West Mata volcano in the NE Lau Basin. These events are identifiable in hydroacoustic data recorded between ~5 and 20 km from the volcano and may be recognized in spectrograms by the weak and strong powers at ...
متن کاملSignificant discharge of CO2 from hydrothermalism associated with the submarine volcano of El Hierro Island
The residual hydrothermalism associated with submarine volcanoes, following an eruption event, plays an important role in the supply of CO2 to the ocean. The emitted CO2 increases the acidity of seawater. The submarine volcano of El Hierro, in its degasification stage, provided an excellent opportunity to study the effect of volcanic CO2 on the seawater carbonate system, the global carbon flux,...
متن کاملAntiproliferative Activity of Glycosaminoglycan-Like Polysaccharides Derived from Marine Molluscs
Despite the increasing availability of new classes of cancer treatment, such as immune- and targeted therapies, there remains a need for the development of new antiproliferative/cytotoxic drugs with improved pharmacological profiles that can also overcome drug resistant forms of cancer. In this study, we have identified, and characterised, a novel marine polysaccharide with the potential to be ...
